Industry work placements are recommended for students undertaking school-based programs such as VET in Schools, VCAL or Work Experience. See your VET or Careers Coordinator for your school processes to access these opportunities. Western Local Community Partnership (WLCP) works with local schools to organise work placement in industry for schools and students. For more information on their services see www.wlcp.com.au

Australian School Based Apprenticeships combine your VCE or VCAL program with employment and give you an opportunity to work, learn and earn. Youth Pathways aims to assist young people aged 13 to 19 to make a smooth transition through school and from school to further education, training or employment by providing advice and assistance targeted at their individual needs. Eligible young people participating in Youth Pathways will receive services which include:

Apprenticeships and Traineeships through Group Training Companies

Group Training Companies (GTC) employ apprentices and trainees and then place these people with suitable employers (host employers) for all or part of the training period. Apprentices and trainees employed by a GTC have the security of continuing employment throughout the training period and support from a GTC coordinator. Group Training Companies assist young people by providing pastoral care, intervening in disputes and rotating apprentices and trainees when necessary. Workplace Connect is a Group Training Company, operating in the Western suburbs, that organises placement and training for young people wishing to access apprenticeships and traineeship programs- including part time school based apprenticeships.
