The focus of this initiative was on promoting the industry to females, students of Aboriginal and Torres Strait descent and special needs students. The Rail Industry Experience Week aims to begin the process of growing a talent pool from which all the rail industry, from operators to suppliers, contractors and authorities, can benefit.
The program provided an opportunity to connect with some of the project’s smallest community members, speaking to children how the new systems being installed will contribute to a safe and reliable train network for the future.

A session provided students with train track awareness as well as insight into some of the disciplines and specialties within the industry. They also completed their white card training, which provides a safety induction mandatory for anyone working in the construction industry.
Students experienced a scaled-down track building exercise, learnt about signaling and train controls, construction, operations, safety and engineering, and even got the chance to drive a train at V/Line’s driver simulator.
The Rail lndustry Experience Week was developed by WynBay LLEN in partnership with Greg Corda, Jay Francis (Regional Rail Link) and Peter Thomson (Regional Rail Link Authority) who have been working as part of the Rail Systems team. Greg, Jay and Peter have worked hard to build support for the project – enlisting the help of the to connect with schools in the project area as well as securing endorsement from Victoria’s rail operators V/Line and Metro Trains Melbourne.
The week-long experience program further builds on Rail Systems’ legacy of learning, following on from the School Visits Program held in 2013, which was delivered by RPS Communications team members Emma Wiggan and Emma Tranchina, to engage with primary school students about the importance of rail safety.
